‘Live’ theatre productions at the cinema are a joy

And there’s no need to dress up or get a flight

Sir, – Sarah Keating writes of her enjoyment of National Theatre productions “live” at the cinema (“Theatre at the cinema: How to see star-studded London and Broadway productions in Ireland”, Stage, June 8th).

I recently saw Siegfried (live) from Royal Ballet at my local cinema. What a joy it was to watch the third chapter of Richard Wagner’s epic Ring cycle without having to dress up or get on a plane – not to mention the £200 theatre ticket – and all from the relative comfort of an inexpensive Omniplex seat.

I predict this form of out-of-home experience will become even more popular. – Is mise,
